This seminar will focus on the importance of considering tax-efficient estate planning and the implementation of tax advice.  The seminar will also look at some of the options available post-death, to maximise tax efficiency and re-allocating assets.

WEBINAR CHAIR: Eleanor Lindsay is a Partner at Fagan Killeen LLP and a qualified Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), holding the STEP Diploma in Trust and Estate Planning. She is a member of STEP, Solicitors for the Elderly Ireland, and serves on the Dublin Solicitors’ Bar Association Probate and Tax Committee. She is a lecturer and tutor for the Law Society PPC Probate Course. In practice, Eleanor advises clients on wills, succession law, trusts, estate administration, and contentious probate matters. She also provides guidance on Enduring Powers of Attorney and the implementation of the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015.  In addition, Eleanor is an experienced conveyancer.

SPEAKERS

Brian Broderick is a Director at KTA Tax, an AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP). He has specialised in private client taxation for over 14 years and has extensive expertise in inheritance tax planning, trust and estate administration, and advising on the tax implications of asset transfers. Brian works closely with clients to structure their affairs in a tax-efficient manner, helping them pass wealth to the next generation while navigating complex cross-border issues where required.  Brian also advises business owners, particularly in managing business sales and/or succession, to optimise the tax position for all members of a family.  Some of this work requires restructuring in advance of transactions and often includes cross-border aspects involving double taxation treaties, multi-jurisdictional tax residence, and foreign located assets. Recognised for his technical insight and practical approach, he is a co-author of the fifth edition of Bohan and McCarthy: Capital Acquisitions Tax, to be published in 2026 by Bloomsbury Professional (updated to Finance Act 2024).A regular speaker, Brian has lectured for the Law Society of Ireland, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and the Irish Tax Institute (ITI), sharing his knowledge with professionals across the tax industry.

Owen Burke is a Partner, Trust and Estate Practitioner and Chartered Tax Adviser in the Private Client team at Hayes Solicitors LLP. He specialises in Wills, probate, administration of estates, succession and tax planning, Enduring Powers of Attorney and residential conveyancing. He acts as a consultant to other solicitors’ firms in relation to private client matters and is regularly instructed by foreign law firms to deal with Irish assets in estates. He assists clients with the creation of EPAs under the new DSS system. He is vice-chair of the DSBA Probate and Taxation Committee. He is a committee member of the Irish branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). He lectures on the Law Society of Ireland Professional Practice Course and the Law Society of Ireland / STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates and delivers CPD lectures on private client matters to various bodies.

Úna Burns is Principal of Úna Burns Solicitors based in Blackrock, County Dublin. She has over 15 years’ experience specialising in the area of wills, trusts, probate and tax and advises colleagues and private clients on all aspects of probate law and estate administrations. She is a committee member of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) Ireland, the DSBA’s Probate and Tax Committee and Solicitors for the Elderly, Ireland. She is a regular speaker on her specialist topics to colleagues and the public alike and has contributed to various publications including the Law Society Gazette and the DSBA’s Parchment magazine.
