Susan Ahern BL

Susan is a barrister specialising in sports law, investigations and regulation, an accredited mediator, and
commercial arbitrator. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and former Chair of the Sports
Law Bar Association of Ireland. She is an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and was appointed to
the CAS Anti-Doping Division for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Susan is the Independent Judicial Chair of
World Wheelchair Rugby, the Independent Deputy Chair of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Authority
Appeals Board and member of the British Horseracing Authority Appeal Panel. She was formerly Head of
Legal and Legislative Affairs for World Rugby and General Counsel of Rugby World Cup Limited.

Frameworks”
Presented by Sean Brassil, Senior Legal Counsel, Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU)
Sean Brassil serves as the Senior Legal Counsel at the Irish Rugby Football Union, where he is responsible
for overseeing all commercial legal matters. His expertise includes the drafting and negotiation of sponsorship
and media rights agreements, as well as safeguarding the IRFU’s intellectual property and trademark rights.
Additionally, Sean holds a position as Director of Sports Dispute Solutions Ireland. After being called to the
Bar in 2012, Sean practiced as a barrister for four years prior to joining the IRFU as a legal advisor in 2015.

“Answering Ireland’s Call: Understanding Rugby Player Contracts, Employment Rights, and the
Collective Bargaining Agreement”
Presented by Peter McKenna, Solicitor, McKenna Durcan Solicitors
Peter McKenna, a former professional rugby player for Leinster and Ireland, co-founded Rugby Players
Ireland, formerly known as the Irish Rugby Union Players’ Association (IRUPA). He transitioned to law,
founding McKenna Durcan Solicitors in 2006, a firm specializing in employment, sports, and corporate law.
Peter is also actively involved with the Law Society of Ireland’s Technology Committee, contributing his
expertise to the intersection of law and sports.

“One for all and all together: Navigating the World Rugby Charter, Regulation 17 and Disciplinary
proceedings”.
Presented by Brian Hammond, Legal Counsel, World Rugby
Brian Hammond brings his expertise in Public and Regulatory Law to World Rugby, the international
governing body for rugby union, where he was appointed Legal Counsel. His responsibilities include advising
on various legal matters and serving as an Officer in Disciplinary Hearings. Brian’s legal career began with
training at Fieldfisher Solicitors, leading to his current role where he also contributes to the Leinster Branch
Appeals Committee and the FAI Disciplinary Committee.
