SPEAKERS:
Marie-Claire Butler was appointed General Solicitor in the Office of the General Solicitor Minors and Wards of Court in July 2024 where she has worked for almost 9 years. Marie-Claire has extensive experience in deprivation of liberty, minors, elder abuse cases and the representation of persons who are placed outside the jurisdiction for specialist treatment. Marie-Claire has a particular interest in eating disorder cases, and cases involving complex psychiatric issues. Marie-Claire is currently leading the review and transition of Wards of Court from Wardship (where the General Solicitor is Committee) to the new ADM(C)A regime.
Áine Hynes S.C. is a partner in public and administrative law in St. John Solicitors. Áine currently chairs the Law Society Mental Health Law and Capacity Taskforce and has made extensive submissions to government on appropriate amendments to the ADMCA. She has been involved in many circuit court applications under the ADMCA and recent High Court applications
Emma Slattery BL is a practising barrister with a particular interest in capacity law and the ADMCA. Emma is the author of the Assisted Decision-Making Handbook published by Bloomsbury Professional in 2024. Called to the Bar of Ireland in 2013 and the Bar of England and Wales in 2018, she regularly lectures and writes on capacity law in Ireland and internationally. She is a member of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission’s Specialist Human Rights Law panel of barristers and a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Bar of Ireland.
Katharine Kelleher BCL LL.M qualified as a solicitor in 1989 and is a partner at Comyn Kelleher Tobin LLP. She has a special interest in the areas of mental health, disability, regulatory and capacity law
Olive Doyle is one of Ireland’s leading practitioners in Public Administrative Law specialising in Mental Health Law. Olive is a Partner in Byrne Wallace with over 25 years’ experience of working in the area of Health and Regulatory Law. Olive is a prominent healthcare litigation specialist and advises on complex healthcare litigation; vulnerable persons and the law; service obligations to persons with disabilities; judicial review; emergency applications to the High Court; Constitutional rights; European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR); United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
