The 2020 CPD cycle instituted under the CPD Regulation (Solicitors (Continuing Professional Development) Regulations, 2017) S.I. 419 of 2023 came into effect on the 1st January 2024.

Every solicitor now has a CPD requirement which includes a minimum of 3 hours Client Care & Professional Standards with additional requirement for those who are sole practitioners or a compliance partner and/or money laundering compliance partner to include 1 hours solicitors accounts and 1 hours anti money laundering compliance.

To help meet these requirements this seminar (with more to follow in the current year) will focus on the following key areas

SPEAKERS:
Rory O’Neill was an Investigating Accountant of the Law Society. He was responsible for inspecting solicitor’s practices for compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Regulations Act, 2014 and reporting to the Regulation of Practice Committee. He also advises on risks to practices associated with Cyber Security and Fraudulent dealings. Rory is presently the Financial Controller of the Law Society Compensation Fund.

Susan Martin qualified as a solicitor more than 20 years ago and is in practice in Dublin. She is a member of the Council of the Law Society and past President of the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association. Susan is the author of a number of legal books and has just finished her doctoral thesis. She is a Commandant in the Army Reserve (Military Police) with over 30 years’ service

Keith Walsh is a Solicitor practicing in the area of civil litigation and family law based in a four solicitors practice in Crumlin Village, Dublin. He is a member of the DSBA Task Force on the Legal Services Regulation Act, 2015, and is a more recent member of The Law Society Task Force on the Legal Services Act. He led the drafting of the new section 150 notice for the Law Society and is currently a member of The Law Society Council since 2015.

Niall Cawley is a sole principal practising for over twenty nine years in Blackrock Co Dublin. He was Chair of the DSBA Practice Management Committee for four years, is currently the President of the DSBA and was also a member of the Law Society Council as a DSBA nominee
