The annual John F Buckley trophy was retained by the Bar in a pulsating match against the DSBA cricket team. The match came down to the last over. Maitiu ODonaill of Beauchamps who was bowling for the first time in a previously illustrious sporting career with Kilmacud Crokes was pitted against the experience of Martin Block of the Bar team. As the light faded Maitiu bowled the final ball of the match. Martin Block got the faintest of touches towards point. Time may have stood still but star fielder and former DSBA President Tony O’Sullivan did not. Despite sprinting towards the ball and hurling it towards the stumps with such speed and grace that most onlookers would swear it didn’t happen, the Bar team made their winning run. Congratulations were offered to the Bar and players and spectators enjoyed a meal and drinks together. Thanks as always to Niall O’Carroll and the Leinster Cricket Club for their hospitality.
