Speakers
Jim Ryan is an Investigating Accountant of the Law Society where he has worked for over 25years. He is responsible for inspecting solicitors’ practices for compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Regulations, 2023 and reporting to the Regulation of Practice Committee. Jim is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants.
Sorcha Hayes is the Head of Practice Regulation, Practice Closures and Regulatory Communications sections for the Regulations Department, Law Society of Ireland. These sections have responsibility for distressed practice closures, practicing certificates, professional indemnity insurance, practice commencements and cessations, certificates of good standing and attestation, Register of Orders, registered European lawyers, practice names, practice notepaper, historic complaints, guidance and ethics and regulatory communications. She also serves as Secretary of the Society’s Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee.
Rory O’Neill is a Fellow Chartered Accountant and is the Financial Controller of the Compensation Fund of the Law Society. Prior to this Rory, spent 14 years as an investigating accountant, carrying out over 500 investigations and has been involved in a number of contentious matters before the High Court and Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal. He has been consulted in relation to regulatory matters on state projects and is extensively involved in raising the profession’s awareness of cybercrime and property fraud and the risk they pose to their practices.

Avril Mangan is the Principle Solicitor at Mangan and Co Solicitors, she is also Chair of the DSBA Practice Management Committee and Council member and Treasurer of the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association. She is the DSBA nominee to Law Society Counsel and also a member of the Law Society Regulation of Practice Committee.
